Welcome to the campaign for a South East university. This campaign was started by FUSE (Friends of the University for the South East) to create community awareness in the Southeast of Ireland and also on a national level as to the urgent need to establish a university facility in the Southeast. The region in question, including Waterford, Wexford, South Tipperary, Kilkenny and Carlow, is the largest population base in the entire of Ireland that is not served by a university facility.
A case for the re-designation of Waterford IT to university status has been made by the governing body of Waterford IT and a report compiled by a leading expert, Dr. Jim Port is currently with the Department of Education, detailing the pros and cons of the case put forward by Waterford IT.
The aim of this campaign is to make all people within the region fully aware of the benefit of the university to the locality. It aims to show people that it is not just the staff of the facility who will benefit but also the wider community. Positive and immediate impact includes job creation, increased foreign investment, a reduction in business closures, cultural diversity and a vibrant and thriving economy that is enjoyed by all other university locations within Ireland. Stay tuned to the campaign for further updates and please contact us if you have any questions.
